Through the VEP (Violent Extremism Prevention) Network project, Gruaja në Zhvillim Korçë (GZHK) aims towards strengthened capacities of local CSOs, encouraged educational institutions to work in the network, an increased interaction between them and the community in general and in particular the youngsters, in order to contribute to countering and preventing the spread of violent extremism and radicalization in Korça region.
In this framework it created local coalitions (CSOs and active citizen groups) with 4 high schools of Korça region that contributed to education and awareness of youth towards this issue; increased the knowledge, capacities and empowered the local coalition members throughout trainings and concrete actions. At the same time, the activities of this project contributed to the improvement of the role of the civil society and educational institutions in Korçë and in the creation of an intercommunion mechanism between actors of civil society, educational institutions and community toward the fulfilment of the project aim.
A Vademecum was created, providing a simple and comprehensive answer to the topic in question, violent extremism and community awareness on this issue and most importantly, it improved cooperation among CSOs, schools, youth and community, in order to address issues of common interest.
Attention was given to identification and conflict management of the groups directly involved in the project, surveillance of the signs of extremism in their behavior, construction of a pathway for their prevention and education to the differences that relate to “hate crime” and the role of communication as far as the manifestations of radicalization are concerned.
